To date, the Vera Bradley Foundation for Breast Cancer has donated over $25 million to breast cancer research. As the month of breast cancer awareness kicks off, we’re working toward growing that number. Vera Bradley Merchandising Manager and three-year breast cancer survivor, Tina, was instrumental in developing a new item that supports the Foundation while providing comfort to victims of breast cancer. THE POWER OF A SURVIVOR…
I think it is a very powerful message that a survivor (me) worked on this project. So much of the reason I came to Vera Bradley was their ties with breast cancer and how important it is to me as a cause. I still have memories of my first chemo session — I took a Vera Bradley Tote. It held a blanket to keep me warm, a Tumbler for water (you are supposed to stay hydrated) and other essentials I needed for the day. The colorful bag was a bright spot in a dreary setting.
THE POWER OF A PRODUCT…
The tassel on the charm is calming for someone going through chemo. It is something for them to hold on to and play with. It is a tangible reminder of their support system. I have a survivor friend who recently was diagnosed with a relapse of breast cancer. I plan to give the Love & Hope Bag Charm as a gift and sign of friendship and hope for my friend.

It was my goal to work for a company that had a breast cancer tie. Now, I get to see what they are doing and how they are putting it to work. That’s what is great about the Foundation — it is women helping women. There’s never a competition. It’s all how can we get through this because we don’t want anyone else to have it. It’s the Vera Bradley spirit.
