This upcoming Mother’s Day is a special one for blogger Kelly of Kelly in the City. She recently revealed that she is becoming a first-time mom, with her mother becoming a first-time grandmother! Today, Kelly is taking over the blog to chat about motherhood and share her picks for the best Mother’s Day gifts.
“Hi everyone! My name is Kelly, and I’m the girl behind the Chicago-based life and style blog kellyinthecity.com. Today, I’m teaming up with Vera Bradley to talk all things Mother’s Day, and to share a little bit about the relationship I have with my mom.
This Mother’s Day is going to be a very special one, as I’m becoming a mother and my own mom is becoming a grandmother in less than three months. (I actually just recently announced the news on my blog! You can see the video of my mom finding out over the holidays here as well.) I’m the oldest on both sides of the family, and this is the first baby in over 15 years, so there’s definitely a lot of excitement in the air. The added element of surprise is that we’re not finding out the sex until the baby is born, and the name won’t be revealed until the big day either. 😉
Mom and I both agree that the perfect Mother’s Day gift is the gift of time. Currently, I live in Chicago and my mom lives outside of Philadelphia. While we won’t be together on Mother’s Day, we recently spent a week together on the Jersey Shore (where these photos were taken) to celebrate! We cooked a lot of meals at home, went on long walks on the beach, shopped online for the baby, worked on decorating her new home and talked. While Mom and I chat on the phone almost every day, there’s just nothing like in-person heart-to-hearts!
That said, actual presents certainly add a little something extra, especially if you can’t physically be with your mom this Sunday! Our favorite Mother’s Day picks from Vera Bradley include the Amy Backpack, the Quilted Cara Convertible Bag and everything in Cobalt Tile. I’m going to be getting my mom a few grandmother-related presents for Mother’s Day this year, but I’m also planning on getting her the Large Duffel in Cobalt Tile so she can visit often! I think the placemats in the same pattern would be adorable, too. Our family is expanding, and I can’t wait for big meals together.

She’s been by my side since the beginning, and has been my biggest cheerleader and supporter throughout the years. As I’ve grown older, she’s also become my best friend.
